A WORLD BUILT FROM LEGACY & LOVE
Though I never had the chance to know my grandfather, Augusto, his presence has always resonated deeply within me. His life, while spent entirely across the ocean in Cape Verde, shaped so much of the family I’ve come to cherish and love. In particular, his son, my father, who has been a constant figure in my life, and my grandmother, Linda, who I spent a large portion of my life with, played central roles in who I am today.
My grandmother was a pillar of strength and love, someone who helped raise me, and for a time, I had the privilege of caring for her as we lived together. The bond I had with her was special, and through her, I always felt connected to the legacy of Augusto. My grandmother would often tell stories about my grandfather, and one detail that always stood out was his love for grogue, Cape Verdean rum, which was something he cherished. I wanted to pay homage to that part of him, and in a way that felt like an extension of my own identity.
Creating Augusto whisky wasn’t just about honoring my grandfather’s memory—it was also a tribute to my father. It’s my way of expressing gratitude to him, to show that I appreciate everything he has done for me and for our family. By creating this blend of whisky, something that I personally enjoy, I wanted to bridge the past and the present, connecting Augusto’s spirit with something that feels like my own. It’s a blend of history, family, and personal taste.
Naming the whisky after my grandfather is also a way for me to honor my family’s roots and legacy, even if much of that history was spent far away from the United States. For me, this whisky isn’t just a drink—it’s a symbol of the enduring connection between generations, the blending of old traditions with new expressions, and a tribute to the man whose life laid the groundwork for so much that I hold dear.
It’s a small but meaningful way to bring together the things I love: my family, our heritage, and a passion for craftsmanship. And it’s a way to remind my father that, through distance and time, I see and appreciate everything we’ve shared as a family, even the things that go unsaid. With Augusto whisky, the legacy lives on in each glass, and I’m proud to carry that forward.
