REFLECTIONS UNDER THE NORTH STAR

This world is where I open up about my personal journey of self-development. It all started with journaling—a simple way for me to reflect and make sense of life. Over time, those journal entries grew into something bigger, evolving into my book project called North Star. It’s a collection of reflections on events, both recent and from years ago, that have shaped who I am today.

The funny thing is, none of this might have happened if I hadn’t taken an Ethics course back in college. It wasn’t a required class, just an elective I chose out of curiosity. That class was my first real introduction to Philosophy, and it changed how I see the world. Since then, I’ve been exploring different philosophies, picking up ideas from each one and forming my own way of looking at things. I don’t follow any one philosophy to the letter, but I blend what resonates with me, which is how North Star was born—my own guiding light.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I still don’t know. And that’s okay. Like everyone else, I’m a student of the universe, trying to navigate life and understand my place in it. This section will serve as my online journal, where I share my thoughts, ideas, and ongoing journey. It’s a space for reflection and growth, and a way to stay connected as we all try to find our own paths.

North Star Journal

There are moments in life where everything feels loud. Not externally… but internally. Thoughts stacking on top of each other. Ideas half-formed. Emotions you can’t quite explain, but you know they’re there. That space—right there—is where North Star was born. The North Star Journal app is a natural extension of the book. Same energy. Same…

Lost in the Medina

It was my first time in North Africa. My first time in an Arab nation. Tunisia felt different in a way that’s hard to explain until you’re standing in it—the sounds, the rhythm, the way the air itself feels layered with history. Everything was foreign compared to the other countries I’ve visited. Even driving felt like…

The Sandwich

I was always told to treat others the way you want to be treated. It’s a simple idea. Almost too simple for how heavy life can become. But every now and then, life creates a moment so small, so ordinary, that it quietly becomes a compass for everything that follows. For me, that moment was…

On the Size of the Universe

There are moments in life that don’t announce themselves as important. They arrive quietly, dressed as ordinary days, ordinary conversations, ordinary rooms. And yet, they leave a permanent mark. This one happened during winter break. The kids were home. Older now. Taller. Wiser in ways that sneak up on you. Our conversations have changed over…

Reflections FM: Cabo Verde

After nearly two decades, I returned to Cabo Verde — not as a tourist, but as a son, a father, and a seeker. This journey was different. For the first time, I walked those familiar roads with both my children and my parents, three generations standing on the same soil, sharing the same breeze. It…

Snow Day

When I decided to move from the snow-covered northeast to the south nearly 20 years ago, I made a promise to myself: never shovel snow again. That promise was forged in frustration during my last winter in Boston—a winter that delivered a relentless 100 inches of snow. The breaking point came during a typical snowstorm…
